A charging booster in a motorhome is used to optimally charge the on-board battery or the body battery while driving. There are usually two battery systems in a motorhome or camper: the starter battery for the engine and one or more body batteries to supply the living areas with electricity. These body batteries power the lighting, refrigerator, heating, water pumps and other electrical appliances in the living area.

The charging booster, also known as a B2B charger (battery-to-battery), is installed between the alternator (or starter battery) and the body battery. It has several important functions:

  1. Voltage boost: The alternator often does not supply the optimum charging voltage for the body battery, especially in modern vehicles with intelligent alternator control, which can reduce the voltage to save fuel. The charge booster increases the voltage to the level required to fully charge the body battery.
  2. Safe charging: Our booster ensures correct charging tailored to the battery type, which extends the service life of the batteries. The charging booster adjusts the charging current and charging voltage according to the charging status and the type of body battery (e.g. lead-acid, AGM, gel or lithium).
  3. Separation of the battery systems: The charging booster prevents the starter battery from being discharged by consumers in the living area by electrically separating the two battery systems when the engine is not running.
  4. Efficient charging: It enables more efficient and faster charging of the body battery while driving, which is particularly important if you are on the road a lot and are rarely connected to shore power.
  5. Multiple charging phases: Our modern charging boosters have several charging phases (e.g. bulk, absorption, float), which ensure gentle and effective charging of the body batteries.
