VW T5.1: 150Ah Supervolt LiFePO4 installation & charging booster extension
Find out how you can replace the AGM board battery in a VW T5.1 Atlantis 2007 with a 150Ah Supervolt LiFePO4 and add a Votronic VCC 1212-50 charge booster. Optimize your power supply for better performance and self-sufficiency.

The aim of the conversion is to replace the existing board battery under the driver’s seat with a Supervolt LiFePO4 battery and to install a 50A charging booster to be installed. As the T5 is used as a passenger car in everyday life, all components are to be installed compactly under the driver’s seat.
Thanks to the large Supervolt battery we assume that we will be self-sufficient for 4-6 days in the future. With the 50A charging booster we want to have the freedom to drive only 1-2 hours between stations on a road trip and still not have any problems with the battery charge level. In purely mathematical terms, the battery should be charged from 0% to 100% after 3 hours of driving.
With regard to the circuit diagram and the material used, Voltronic’s specifications were followed exactly.
Material:
- Cable suitable for motor vehicles with appropriate cross-section
- Fuse holder + fuses
- Various ring cable lugs
- Wire ferrules
- Insulating tape
- Material for cable protection (engine compartment)
- Shrink tubing
- Battery holder
- Battery
- Charging booster
- Battery cover (recommended as moving parts of the driver’s seat are very close to the positive and negative terminals of the battery)
Tip: It is advisable to plan a certain reserve of material.
For the conversion, a new cable (red) was routed from the starter battery through a sleeve behind the starter battery into the vehicle interior. This cable can be routed in a groove under the floor up to the driver’s seat.
To fit the new battery holder, the 4 screws on the seat console must be loosened. It is also advisable to remove the handbrake (cover + 2 screws)
The battery holder can now be positioned under the seat console. To fit the Supervolt 150Ah battery the seat console of the T5.1 must be machined in 3 places.
A Fein multitool was used for this. Alternatively, you can also work with an angle grinder at this point. (see picture)
An aluminum plate has been prepared for mounting the Votronic VCC 1212-50, which is attached to the battery holder.
Votronic VCC 1212-50 was set and wired as described in the operating instructions. There is also an earth point for the negative terminal of the battery under the driver’s seat.
We are very satisfied with the new battery. The battery charges quickly even on short journeys in the city. The temperature monitoring of the charge booster works reliably. No charging below 0 °C. Access via the Supervolt app worked straight away. You can use it to view various values of the Supervolt battery can be displayed.
